Md. Touts Healthcare Benefits To Working Poor

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) ― Maryland public health Secretary John Colmers is due in Cumberland Thursday to promote an O'Malley administration initiative providing expanded health care to the working poor.

The Working Families and Small Business Coverage Act was passed during the General Assembly's special session and signed into law by Gov. Martin O'Malley last fall.

A provision expanding Medicaid coverage to families with incomes slightly above the Federal Poverty Level took effect in July.

Another provision that subsidizes small businesses to provide employee health insurance took effect last month.
