Commissioners To Discuss Buildings Near Airport

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) ―

The Washington County Commissioners will discuss using federal funds to move some historic farm buildings near Hagerstown Regional Airport.

The buildings, known as the Brumbaugh-Kendle-Grove farmstead, are less than 500 feet from the airport's new 7,000-foot runway. Federal officials say they pose a security threat.

Commissioners will discuss moving the structures, which have delayed efforts to clear land around the runway, at a meeting Tuesday.

Federal agencies want the buildings removed or destroyed. Preservation laws have stopped that from occurring. Washington County Administrator Gregory Murray say the county has asked to use some of the federal money for relocation instead of demolition.
