Frederick Man Sentenced In Fatal Beating
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―
A Frederick man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his guilty plea in the death of a homeless man.
Willard Sigler, 50, was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty in December to second-degree murder in the Valentine's Day attack on Samuel Hood.
Frederick police said Sigler repeatedly hit and stomped Hood, 57, in an alley in the 100-block of West Patrick Street. The sentence was the maximum allowed by law.
Police never established a motive for the attack, and Sigler did not address the court during Tuesday's sentencing hearing. Hood's relatives said Hood chose to be homeless so he wouldn't have to rely on his family for help.
