Memorial Service Held For Victims In Ohio Crash

PARKVILLE, Md. (WJZ) ― There was heartfelt emotion during a memorial service to remember five victims who police say were killed by a drunk driver.
Four of the victims lived in Parkville but Friday's service was held outside Detroit, where the family had ties.

Kathryn Brown has more on the service.

Danny Griffin told friends and family Friday he's focusing on the happiness he experienced with his family and says however hard it may be, he'll honor their memory by moving on.

Nearly 200 mourners packed Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in suburban Detroit.  It's the second memorial service in less than a week for five family members killed in a horrendous car crash over the holidays.

Danny and Bethany Griffin, along with six of their seven children, were returning home to Maryland after visiting relatives in Michigan when a drunk driver going the wrong way on an Ohio interstate crashed into them head-on, killing Bethany and four children.

"I lived two doors down from them and I watched the kids grow up and it's very difficult for all of us to take it all in," a neighbor said.

The driver of the other car, 24-year-old Michael Gagnon, had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit.

At a memorial service at St. Luke's Church in Baltimore earlier this week, Danny Griffin, still wearing a neck brace, was surrounded by loved ones as he mourned for his family.

He says he'll honor their memories by putting his shattered family back together.

Gagnon faces five counts of aggravated vehicular homicide.
