Drop In Gas Prices Silver Lining In Economic Cloud
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
There is a silver lining to the black cloud covering the crumbling economy.
Gas prices are on their way down, and they're dropping fast.
Kelly McPherson found at least one gas station where drivers are paying less than $3 a gallon.
The dreaded gas pump is not looking quite as expensive as it has in the past few months.
A drop in prices is a relief to drivers like Sarah Limon. She pays for the gas to deliver pizzas.
"That's $30 that goes toward my daughter's tuition," said Limon.
A gallon of regular is about $3 across Maryland. Gas price watchers have found and posted some of the cheapest.
It's $2.88 in Elkton, $2.89 in Beltsville and $2.94 in Glen Burnie.
"I wish it would go back down to 1990 when it was $1.50," said one driver.
While $3.09 may still seem high to some people, the last time Marylanders paid about $3 a gallon for gas was six months ago.
"If the price of crude continues to do what it's been doing, which is to go down, we certainly expect that gas prices will continue to decline," said Ragina Averella, Mid-Atlantic AAA.
The average price per gallon in Maryland -- starting in April when it was about $3 all the way through the hikes of the summer and now in October -- is finally dropping down.
AAA says the price of gas per gallon in Maryland could go down another 30 cents, but it all depends on the volatile market.
