Roads Shut Down After Gas Line Struck In Essex

ESSEX, Md. (WJZ) ― A gas line was struck by a contractor at Pulaski Highway & Middle River Road in Essex Tuesday.

Fire officials say it happened around 11:17 a.m.

Captain Mike Perry reports BGE crews are on the scene.  BGE says once they assessed the damage and necessary repairs to the line, they shut off the line to begin repairs. 

Several businesses have been closed, including a diner and gas station.   

Several roads are closed right now, including E/B Rte. 40 from Martin Road to Middle River Road, S/B Middle River Road from Rte. 7 to Rte. 40 and Middle River Road from Rte. 40 to Pulaski Park Drive

Police contacted county schools earlier in the day to discuss alternative routes for students.

There are no reports of any injuries.
