Police Arrest Female Gang Member In Park Shooting

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) ― An arrest has been made in the shooting of a teenage girl in a popular area park. In custody is a female gang member.

Weija Jiang reports the victim identified her shooter who turned out to be wanted for two other shootings and is a key witness in the homicide of someone police call a fellow gang member.

Investigators still don't know why 18-year-old Ashley Davis was in Robert E. Lee. Park with Sirlilar Jewelle Stokes, but charging documents obtained by Eyewitness News fill in the blanks on why police charged Stokes with first-degree attempted murder for allegedly shooting Davis in the back of the head with a .38-caliber handgun.

"This was not a random act. This was a targeted act against the suspect and the victim," said Cpl Mike Hill with Baltimore County Police.

The statement of charges says an officer asked Davis who shot her, but she couldn't answer. The officer then asked her to write the suspect's name.

Davis wrote "Juelz. She's a Blood, she's usually on Baltimore Street."

A few hours later, Stokes was arrested outside the Two O' Clock Club.

Davis was seen leaving the club with Stokes early Wednesday morning. A few hours later, Davis was shot in Robert E. Lee Park and then stumbled almost a mile to a convenience store on Falls Road.

Stokes is a suspect in two Baltimore City shootings. One of them also involved the use of a .38-caliber handgun.

Stokes is considered a witness by a police gang unit to the homicide of a fellow Blood member, but the shooting at Robert E. Lee Park is not believed to be gang-related.

"I'm glad she did survive. I mean, we never had any problems like this in years around here. Never had anything like this. I mean it's like shocking to see it happen now," said Melvin Miller.

Investigators have also learned the Bloods set that Stokes belongs to is feuding with another gang.

Davis is still in critical but stable condition at Sinai Hospital.
