Frederick Commissioner Wants New Ethics Law
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―
Frederick County Commissioner John Thompson wants the state to adopt an ethics law forbidding state elected officials from having sexual relationships with state employees who work for them.
An exception would be allowed if the official and the worker are married to each other.
Thompson says the proposal is a response to a specific situation, but he says he will not name the people involved out of consideration for innocent third parties.
Thompson wants the issue included in the county's list of state legislative priorities. However, several state lawmakers from the county say they would oppose Thompson's proposal.
County delegation chairman Rick Weldon says there are many more important issues facing the county and the state.
