It's a mystery spanning from Baltimore City to Frederick County. A teenager goes missing and is found dead days later.
Kelly McPherson has more on what detectives think happened.
Last week, Baltimore police officers were investigating a missing person case for a young woman from East Baltimore. Now it's a homicide investigation, though police still don't know how she died or how she ended up so far from home in her own car.
Shneara Boone's family and friends are still comprehending how the 19-year-old was missing for a week, then found dead so far away from home.
"She's a young lady, a beautiful lady, a person with so much promise and she's her mother's child. And there's something about losing a child that's harder than anybody can imagine," said Mildred Murdock, a family friend.
Her mother filed a missing person report on Sunday, Aug. 31.
"She came to the police department with concerns, stating that it was unlike her daughter to leave without notice, without being in contact with her for days upon end. Apparently the girl has no record. She was a working young lady, she did have a job," said Donny Moses, Baltimore City Police spokesperson.
Five days later, on Friday, police stumbled about Shneara's body in Frederick--miles away from home. She was inside the family's green SUV. Investigators believe she had been dead in the car since Monday.
"I can't believe that someone would want to hurt her like that, you know. She was my cousin but we were like sisters and I'm asking whoever did this to her, just please come forward. Just turn yourself in," said Keona Moore, Shneara's cousin.
Her sudden death is not officially a homicide, as detectives do not know how she died. Her family believes there is a murderer out there. They're looking to each other for support.
"Times when we can't explain, times when we don't make sense of what's going on in our lives, it's prayer and the love of friends and family and just the closeness that brings us the strength that we need," Murdock said.
Baltimore homicide detectives are working with Frederick police in this case. It will be another week before toxicology reports come back. Until then, police are following all possible leads.
