Winter Storm Hits Maryland, Part 3

Constellation Energy intends to buy a landfill in Curtis Bay to use for disposal of fly ash, a byproduct of its coal-fired power plants in Pasadena.
Millennium Inorganic Chemicals owns the 65-acre industrial landfill and has applied to modify its permit to allow fly ash to be dumped there.
Anne Arundel County officials and residents want to be sure precautions are in effect so the fly ash does not hurt the environment. Constellation dumped 3.8 million tons of fly ash at a Gambrills site between 1995 and 2006 and last year reached a settlement in a suit brought by residents.
Kevin Thornton, a Constellation spokesman, said the company expects to close the deal by the end of the year.
