The party primary elections are just days away in Maryland's 1st congressional district and calls for immigration changes have been a major topic in both parties. One Republican candidate, state Sen. E.J. Pipkin, sent out campaign ads showing two of his primary opponents and a Democratic politician wearing sombreros and describing them as the "Three Amigos."
He says his opponents have been soft on illegal immigration.
State Sen. Andy Harris says there are many people in both parties who feel immigration is out of control and Congress hasn't done anything about it.
However, incumbent Wayne Gilchrest is telling voters he is working to ensure immigrants coming to the district are in the U.S. legally.
Queen Anne's County State's Attorney Frank Kratovil, a Democrat, says the nation should be enforcing its laws, but he warns the immigration debate should not become a racial issue.
