Threat Of A Washout Doesn't Stop Fireworks Show

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― The show did go on.

Kelly McPherson reports despite threats of a washout, the skies cleared just in time for the big July 4th fireworks show downtown.

It was a great turnout at the Inner Harbor Friday.  Thousands of people showed up to watch the fireworks.

The police presence was strong to keep things in order.

The best news was that the fireworks actually went off despite the forecast. Rain didn't scare off the crowds.

"Actually I was thinking the fireworks might be canceled, but we thought we'd give it a try. If it rains, so what," said Abhai Singh of Baltimore City.

More than 300 triggers sent red, white and blue fireworks over the harbor entertaining thousands.

Despite a few showers and the threat of rain ruining the fireworks, the weather did not dampen the spirit of what 4th of July is all about.

"We're celebrating the Independence Day for when we, the revolution, we won the revolution, got our freedom from the British," said 9-year-old Bradford Miles.

One Bowie coupled celebrated for more than one reason. Ruth Monte marked her first 4th of July as a U.S. citizen.

"It's awesome. We came all the way listening to the CD, 'God Bless America' and that's awesome. I'm very proud of being in America," said Ruth.

Many spectators who watched the fireworks at the harbor thought this year's show wasn't as good as previous years.  But the overall attitude was that everyone was just glad to see the show go on considering the weather.
