Two home videos released to the news media are sparking controversy at a Prince George's County firehouse.
Two home videos released to the news media are sparking controversy at a Prince George's County firehouse.
Adam May reports the tape appears to show several volunteer firefighters breaking the law and hazing a volunteer recruit.
A naked man could be seen on video tape running outside of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department in Prince George's County.
Surrounding him were volunteer firefighters. Some shouted obscenities, others doused him with water and fire extinguishers.
The man targeted was also a volunteer. On the video, numerous claims can be heard that the man is inebriated. Whether or not that is true is unknown, but his actions on the tape are unusual including trying to pick up garbage with his teeth.
The man is also given what many refer to as an atomic wedgie.
The repeated douses continued, and later the man showed up in the tape with burns that appeared to have occurred from the fire extinguishers.
The chief of Prince George's County Fire/EMS said in a statement, "I have reviewed a videotape that depicts activities at the Kentland Volunteer Fired Department, Inc. What I saw can briefly be described as unprofessional, disturbing and a matter that requires further attention."
The question is will that include criminal charges.
In one of the videos, Kentland's crew was seen firing off numerous bottle rockets under trucks. Fireworks are illegal in the county. In fact, the fire department is often reminding people of the dangers.
One of the people seen a number of times in the videos is a man who at one point was armed with a leaf blower.
He's currently the chief of Kentland but was not in that position when the videos were created.
Tony Kelleher, the current chief of the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department, was suspended Sunday night by the Board of Directors of the Prince George's County Fire Company.
