Howard County Plans To Build 2 Fire Stations
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) ―
Howard County is planning to build two fire stations and hire more 911 operators.
The stations announced Monday are the first new fire facilities in the county since 1994. The eight new 911 operators are being hired as part of an effort to cut emergency call response time.
The new fire stations will be in Glenwood and Mayfield. The Mayfield station will be housed temporarily at a highway maintenance shop until the county completes a land purchase at state Route 175 and U.S. Route 1.
The new stations will be scaled-down versions of typical fire stations and will cost between $3 million and $4 million each.
