Funeral Held For Baby Killed In Apartment Fire

RANDALLSTOWN, Md. (WJZ) ― A sad farewell for one Baltimore County family who lost their home and six-month-old baby in a fast-moving apartment fire last week.

Gigi Barnett has more.

Most residents at the Olde Court Garden Apartments in Randallstown were warned when a fire rushed through their building and they all moved quickly to get out.

When the smoke cleared, firefighters found six-month-old Malik Michael Hasan on the floor of one of the apartments.

Saturday, his family said goodbye with prayer, poems and song.

Family and friends remembered Malik, who earned the nickname "Mr. Happy Feet" because he loved to play with his toes.

Malik's service was also in sign language.  His mother, Shyana Hasan, is deaf.

"We know.  We have no doubt.  We got it from the top that this baby is with the Lord.  The Kingdom of God is open wide for Malik," said Dr. Peggy Johnson.  "Let not your heart be troubled for Jesus has gone to prepare a place for young Malik."

The fire displaced about 30 people.  Malik was the only fatality.

Baby Malik was laid to rest at King Memorial Park.
