Kent County Firm Fined $200,000

CHESTERTOWN, Md. (AP) ―

The Maryland attorney general says a Kent County company must clean up contaminated groundwater and soil and pay a fine under a consent decree.

Velsicol Chemical Company of Chestertown, which was fined $200,000, was sued by the state last year for allegedly violating water pollution and hazardous material control law.

Attorney General Douglas Gansler says the plant used insufficient waterwater treatment procedures dating to the 1950s under Noudex, a previous owner. Velsicol purchased the plant in 1994.
