The day after Thanksgiving is marked by more than shopping in Maryland; it's also the start of the annual Festival of Trees.

The lights, cameras and holiday action are in full swing at the Festival of Trees. That means the countdown to the holidays is on.
Gigi Barnett reports this year there is another special reason to celebrate.
For first-time visitors, Kennedy Krieger's Festival of Trees offers much to see and a lot of ground to cover.
"We haven't been all the way around, but looking at the trees and gingerbread houses, the kids have loved them," said Dianne Conte.
More than 500 trees deck the halls in the cow palace at the State Fairgrounds in Timonium. All have a different theme and took hours to complete.
"My favorite is really the ocean theme ones," said visitor Natalie Conte.
For some visitors, Festival of Trees is a chance to get some decorating ideas.
"We were captivated by two of the trees especially. One was the Crayola tree. We were wondering how the crayons were put together and we found it really ingenious," said Dorothy Goodman.
But this year, after two decades and thousands of visitors, the Festival of Trees is celebrating its 20th anniversary, too.
Kennedy Krieger spokeswoman Lainy Lebow-Sachs says it's the trees that draw most first-time and veteran visitors, but some visit for another reason--all of the money raised goes to the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
"The money that we raise all goes to research , the education, the patient care...all of the very necessary things that we need," said Lebow-Sachs.
The Festival of Trees is one of the largest holiday events on the East Coast. Over the past two decades, the event has raised more than $12 million for Kennedy Krieger.
