Police Investigate 2 Murders In Federal Hill

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Baltimore police are investigating two murders this weekend in Federal Hill, a neighborhood unaccustomed to violent crime.

Weijia Jiang reports police are seeking the public's help in finding the killers. They're asking for anyone with information to come forward, and at this time they don't have any leads.

Around 5 a.m. Sunday in the 200-block of Montgomery Street, a jogger made a shocking discovery.

A man dead from multiple gunshot wounds was lying in the street near the curb.

Officers are talking to residents as they walk almost every street in the area and cars patrol the streets and park.

"I heard four shots and then it was followed by what I counted to be 16 all together," said Marjorie Clinton.

Police responded to the 911 calls, but found nothing suspicious. Hours later at 5 a.m. a jogger found a man dead. Police have identified the victim
as Stephen Waters, 24, from Baltimore.

"We don't know who he is. The victim in this case had no identification on him," said Det. Donny Moses with Baltimore City Police.

This shooting comes days after another murder in Federal Hill.

Witnesses heard shots fired and saw the 35-year-old victim pushed out of a car onto Battery Street Friday night around 9:15.  The victim has been identified as Keyva Bluitt.

There have been no arrests nor any suspects in that case either.

Police say it's still too early to say if both murders are related.

"If there's any correlation other than the fact that two people were found dead in Federal Hill, it's too soon to say," said Det. Moses.

"Now we've had two homicides in as many nights. That's a disturbing trend," said Federal Hill Assoc. President Paul Robinson.

The group is calling for emergency meetings with city leaders and police to put rumors to rest and talk about what can be done to help the neighborhood which rarely experiences murders.

"I think this incident or the last two incidents for the last two evenings are a sad demonstration that none of us are immune to what's going on out there city-wide, and we've gotta do our best, as members of the community, to support the enforcement efforts of our fine police," said Robinson.

Police are now beefing up patrols in the Federal Hill area, adding foot patrols and vehicle patrols.

Police plan to remain in the area throughout the night.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Baltimore City Police.

First daughter Jenna Bush and her husband, Henry Hager, have bought a home in the area known for well-kept, rehabbed rowhomes and a bustling nightlife.
