Man Dies In Early Morning House Fire

CHARLESTOWN, Md. (WJZ) ―

Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing with their investigation into the cause of a early morning fire that claimed the life of a Charlestown man.

The 2:08 a.m. fire at 12 Edgewater Drive was reported to the 911 center by neighbors.

The fire brought approximately 40 firefighters from Charlestown, Perryville and North East to the scene. It took firefighters approximately one-hour to bring the fire under control but not before an estimated $90,000 in damage was done.

Investigators have determined that a 71 year-old man was the sole occupant in the home at the time of the fire. It is unclear if there were working smoke alarms.

Deputy State Fire Marshals has not determined where the fire started or the cause.

The body is being taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where a forensic examination to determined the identity and cause of death will be conducted.
