1 Killed In Howard Co. Accident
HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) ―
The Traffic Enforcement Section is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Sunday at approximately 3:55 a.m.
The two-vehicle accident occurred on Rt. 32 near the State Highway Administration/Howard County Dayton Shops.
Officials say the driver of a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta traveling northbound on Rt. 32 lost control of the vehicle on the slick roadway. The vehicle rotated 180 degrees, crossed the double yellow line and was struck by a southbound Dodge 2500 Ram pickup truck. The pickup truck was towing a trailer loaded with hay.
An unbelted passenger in the Volkswagen was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene. He is identified as Gilberto Garcia Vasques
The driver of the Volkswagen, Jose Rosendo Algomeda-Santiago, is listed in serious condition. Officials say he had been drinking prior to the crash.
Another passenger in the vehicle, Gonzalo Gutierrez-Molina, is listed in serious condition. The final passenger, Victor Guitierrez-Almeida, is listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Dodge pickup truck was not injured. He is identified as Eric Brent Fratz.
Charges against Jose Rosendo Algomeda-Santiago are pending his release from Shock Trauma.
