Youths Charged In Escape, Several Transferred
SABILLASVILLE, Md. (AP) ―
Department of Juvenile Services officials say the 14 youths who escaped from the Victor Cullen Center have been transferred to other detention centers across Maryland.
Department spokeswoman Tammy Brown says four youths found walking along railroad tracks near the Frederick County facility Wednesday night have been charged with escape.
Brown says the incident began when one youth began to act out, and broke free when staff tried to restrain him, causing a commotion. She says several youths then broke into a locked building and stole tools they used to cut the fence.
A Frederick County Adult Detention Center official says staff transported nine youths from Victor Cullen, including 18-year-old Julian Jackson, who is charged with second-degree escape.
