7 Hurt In Fight, Escape At Md. Juvenile Facility
SABILLASVILLE, Md. (AP) ―
Maryland officials say seven people were injured after a fight broke out at a secure facility in rural Frederick County and 14 youths briefly escaped.
Department of Juvenile Services spokeswoman Tammy Brown says the youths left their cottages when a fight broke out at the Victor Cullen Academy in Sabillasville around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Brown says all 14 were back in custody within an hour. Ten were quickly found in a maintenance building and four others were found less than a quarter mile away.
Six staff members and one resident suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital.
The academy about 70 miles northwest of Baltimore is a secure facility for boys who are found responsible for serious crimes.
Brown says the incident is under investigation.
