Fmr. Fire Commission Chair Pleads Guilty
CENTREVILLE, Md. (AP) ―
The former chairman of the Queen Anne's County Fire and EMS Commission has been ordered to serve 18 months in jail for the theft of more than $155,000 in county funds.
Ted Jackson, 40, of Centreville was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to two counts of felony theft. In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped 13 other charges.
Jackson must also make restitution.
Authorities say Jackson submitted requisitions for fire equipment and listed Bradley Kornegay of New Castle, Del., as the vendor. Jackson was accused of depositing the checks in Kornegay's account without ever purchasing the equipment.
Defense attorney Joel Katz says Jackson was facing rising mortgage payments and fewer opportunities to earn overtime.
Kornegay's trial is scheduled for June 12.
