Thousands Celebrate Independence Day In Dundalk

DUNDALK, Md. (WJZ) ― Communities all over Maryland are celebrating Independence Day with festivals and parades. Each year one of the biggest parades marches right through Dundalk.

Jessica Kartalija reports thousands of people came out to celebrate.

There were state senators, Vietnam veterans and firefighters at Dundalk's 74th annual parade.

A few sprinkles did not stop early risers from staking out the best spot to see the parade.

"I'm surprised to see all of the people waving, even though it's raining. Yeah, I'm proud to be an American," said one parade watcher.

"I have a niece that's in the service right now. She is over in Japan. She was over in Iraq twice. So it kinda just gives me goose bumps," said one woman.

WJZ's Ron Matz served as the Grand Marshal, joining America's heroes, local heroes, politicians and patriots.

The parade lasted for more than two hours.
