The woman who led Harford County schools for the past decade suddenly died last week.
Her memorial and services were this weekend, but
Kai Jackson reports Wednesday was set aside for celebration.
On a dismal, cold day, there was the warmth of friendship. Dr. Jackie Haas was said to be good at bringing people together. Now, strong memories of the Harford County Schools Superintendent brought 2,000 people, maybe more, to celebrate.
"I have been to the wake," said Salina Williams, a school board member.
"Dr. Haas was the person who gave me my job," said teacher Tim Lindencamp.
"And she was one of my first principals," said music teacher Katherine Dorsey. "She just listened to me."
With her husband, sons and family in the front row, tributes reminded everyone that Dr. Haas cared about her students, as well as her friends.
"I love Jackie Haas. I will miss her dearly and hope she rests easy," said Joseph Licata with Harford County Public Schools.
Dr. Haas was 59.
