AST Dew Tour Opens In Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
Thousands of parents in our area who have teens or pre-teens have found out that there are some very important athletes in town this weekend.
You may not know any of the professional skateboarders, BMX and motorcyclists, but as
Mike Schuh reports, they are bringing in tens of thousands of people to Ravens' Stadium.
Many are sending out cheers as the Dew Tour comes back to town.
They're coming to see people like Mike Spinner who created an aerial move never seen before. He's now a top professional, and this event is his office.
It's nothing short of spectacular what Spinner and others will show the paying fans.
"Here's a tail whip tire top and drop right back in," said Spinner, showing off one of his tricks.
It's all happening outside of Ravens' Stadium.
"Yeah, we've taken up the entire footprint of Ravens' Stadium," said Chris Pryblo, tour organizer.
About 55,000 people came last year.
"We're going to top that," said Pryblo.
Jason Tilman is from Laurel and is inspired by the athletes.
"It's exciting. I want to do that," said Tilman.
Many of the fans are locals.
"But we're really drawing from the East Coast, Philly and D.C.," said Pryblo.
Some future stars are being discovered like one 14-year-old with a need for speed and adventure.
"This sounds corny, but you're like doing ballet on a bike," said Spinner.
Skaters, BMX, high jumpers, even motorcycles make for a packed schedule on three main stadiums.
One of the BMX riders, 28-year-old Stephen Murray, was paralyzed last year after failing to properly complete a jump. He is recovering and will be at the stadium to be honored on Friday night at the event.
