First District Democrats Start Debate Circuit

EASTON, Md. (AP) ― It's debate time for Democrats running in the First District.

Talbot County Democrats are playing host to a forum Wednesday night in Easton. The five Democratic candidates are invited.

The field is crowded, but only two candidates in the race have raised any money. They are Queen Anne's County state's attorney Frank Kratovil and Cambridge attorney Christopher Robinson.

Kratovil has the backing of the state's top Democrats, including Governor Martin O'Malley. Democratic Senator Barbara Mikulski told a crowd of state Democrats in Annapolis Tuesday that she thinks Democrats can pick up the First District seat.

There's a big slugfest on the Republican side of the race.

Nine-term incumbent Wayne Gilchrest is being challenged by two state senators in an expensive campaign.

The primaries are Feb. 12th.
