Feds Won't Seek Death Penalty In Witness Killing
FREDERICK, Md. (AP) ―
A spokeswoman with the U.S. attorney's office says prosecutors won't be seeking the death penalty for the killing of a witness in a Frederick drug case.
Four men accused of killing David Wayne Lee Jr. are set to go on trial Jan. 14 in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.
Steven Stone, 23, of Frederick, and Jesse Dorsz, 27, of Walkersville could face a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted of federal witness tampering.
Stone's father, 41-year-old Chester Stone, and Randall Hildebrand, 21, also face federal prison time on lesser offenses.
State murder charges were dropped in April against Eric Lee Campbell, 19, of Gaithersburg, who was 16 at the time of the 2005 killing.
Lee was shot in the head about two weeks before he was expected to testify in a federal drug and weapons investigation.
