Baltimore Children Meet Hometown Hero

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― Kids at a Baltimore City elementary school get a special visit from a local hero.

As Jessica Kartalija reports, an NBA star hoops it up with students in Mount Washington.

A special welcome for a hometown hero.  Sacramento Kings forward and former Towson Catholic star Dante Greene stopped by the after-school club at Mount Washington Elementary.

"I gave him a call and asked if he would come speak to the kids, give his success story and talk about how he made it and he said he was excited.  `Fine, I'll come.  No problem!" said Matt Day.

"It means a lot, you know. When I was younger to have someone come around is definitely mind-blowing.  When I was younger I got to meet the program and it's good to give back to the community," Greene said.

After graduating from Towson Catholic, Greene played for Syracuse before being drafted by the NBA.

Greene, who will play his first official NBA game in October, leaves these kids with a memory they will never forget.

Greene was born in West Germany and moved to the U.S. when he was three-years-old.
