Damascus Opens New Museum On Town's History
DAMASCUS, Md. (AP) ―
The town of Damascus has a new home to preserve its history.
The Damascus Heritage Society plans to open a museum on Tuesday, starting off with an exhibit on the town's volunteer fire department.
The society and others have worked for years to find a home to document the town's agricultural and community history.
For at least five years, the new museum will remain on county property at the site of a library and senior center. The Montgomery County Board of Education provided two trailers for the facility and locals contributed more than $50,000 in cash to renovate them.
In the first year, museum officials say they will focus on revolving exhibits. They say more volunteers are needed as are more items to put on display.
