Internet Service To Help Residents View Crime Data

ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) ―

Montgomery County residents will be able to view maps that show where crimes have been reported under a partnership with police and a software development company.

The service will be available beginning in February on the CrimeReports Web site. It will present data on a Google Maps interface, where residents can view any location served by county police.

Residents also will be able to receive e-mail alerts about crimes that occur close to home or any other address of interest, such as a school, business or community center.

Officials say preliminary crime data will be updated each night by the police department.
