Anne Arundel County police say a woman is dead after her son fell asleep at the wheel, causing a chain-reaction crash.
Mike Perry reports it happened Tuesday morning in Pasadena. Police say 64-year-old Herbert Ratcliff of Pasadena fell asleep at the wheel of his 2005 Toyota Camry and drifted into oncoming traffic on Fort Smallwood Road.
He crashed head-on into an SUV, leading to a chain reaction that involved two other vehicles.
Ratcliff's mother, 85-year-old Irene Ratcliff, suffered upper body injuries and died at the scene. Herbert Ratcliff was taken to a trauma center with chest pains. No one else was injured.
