Woman Killed After Car Hits House In Hereford

HEREFORD, Md. (WJZ) ― It's an unthinkable way to die.  A woman was sleeping in her house when an out-of-control pickup truck rammed into her bedroom, killing her in an instant.  It happened early Tuesday morning in Hereford, Baltimore County.

Weijia Jiang has more on the tragedy.

When a stolen black pickup truck spun out of control on York Road early Tuesday morning, it rammed into a corner bedroom.  It may be unthinkable for many, but the woman inside was killed in her sleep.

"Of course it's frightening, as we all expect to go to bed and wake up in the morning.  Having this unexpected turn of events is horrifying," said neighbor Molly Ward.

Police say 46-year-old Mary Patricia Sullivan died instantly.  Sullivan's two daughters, 14 and 16, were also in the house. Neither one was injured.

Firefighters spent all morning boarding up the bedroom to make sure the house is still structurally sound.  They don't know whether alcohol played a factor.

Inside the truck, police found several women's purses, linking the people in the vehicle to a recent rash of robberies in the area.  Now investigators wonder if the driver was trying to get away with stolen goods when he wrecked the truck.

"We were not in pursuit of the vehicle at all.  We didn't know about this until we got the call for the crash.  The driver was not there.  A very short search found a person in close proximity who had injuries," said Cpl. Mike Hill with Baltimore County Police.

As police try to nail down how all this happened, neighbors are heartbroken by what Sullivan's daughters must live with.

"Very friendly people.  She seemed like a loving mother.  Never heard any violent activity around here.  She was always very oriented with the children," said neighbor Cory Blizzard.

"Physically, they're OK, but emotionally what they'll have to go through for a while will be pretty tough," Ward said.

Police plan to file several charges against the suspect in the upcoming days.  They'll most likely include charges for the rash of robberies in the area.
