Md. Senators Seek More Details On Medevac Crash

BALTIMORE (AP) ― Two Maryland state senators want to know more about a helicopter crash last month that killed four people and seriously injured a fifth.

Sen. John Astle and Sen. E.J. Pipkin sent a letter on Friday with 38 questions to the Maryland State Police and the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services System, which oversees the state's emergency response network.

The letter raises questions why the helicopter fleet remains partially grounded. It also asks questions related to maintenance and other safety issues.

James Brown, a spokesman with the emergency medical services system, says he had not seen the letter and could not comment.

Brown says helicopter service has resumed in five out of eight sections of the state. He also says the state has been covered with emergency helicopter service ever since the accident with help from U.S. Park Police and the Delaware State Police and commercial services.
