Suspect In 2 Slayings Pleads Not Responsible
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) ―
A Columbia man charged in two Howard County homicides has pleaded not criminally responsible and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
The plea was entered during a court appearance Wednesday.
Charles Richardson, 24, is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 40-year-old Alevtina Zhilina.
The victim was a clerk at the 7-Eleven convenience store on Columbia Road when she was killed during an attempted robbery in April 2007.
Richardson also is charged in a second murder less than a month later. The body of 19-year-old Trae Allen was found at Richardson's town house across the street from the 7-Eleven.
Richardson's trial is scheduled for May 27 in Howard County Circuit Court.
