Ron Matz reports a $5,000 prize package awaits the winner of the "Ultimate Couch Potato Contest."
The contestants are pumped. Three men and one woman are vying to see who can watch sports television the longest and be crowned "Baltimore's Ultimate Couch Potato."
They've come to the ESPN Zone with a strategy.
"It's mostly a mental thing for me--just setting benchmarks and then outlasting each person," said Alex Pyzik from Bel Air.
"I think they're gonna find out what it's like to lose to a girl. They may not know but they're gonna know. They're goin' down," said Jessica Mosley from Arlington, Va.
"They can't fall asleep. They can't get out of their seats. Every hour they will get five minutes to stretch and every eight hours they get a 15 minute break where they can use the restroom," said Leigh Friedman from ESPN Zone.
They could be in the recliners for a long time.
"Last year the winner in New York went 29 hours. The winner in Chicago went 40 hours and 30 minutes. This is our first year in Baltimore so we'll see how long they last," said Friedman.
The four finalists were selected from essays sent to Sports Radio 105.7 The Fan.
The winner will receive a $5,000 prize package, which includes a 42-inch HDTV, a dream seat recliner and two round-trip tickets on AirTran Airways to anywhere in the continental U.S.
