Baltimore Crowns Ultimate Couch Potato

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― If sitting on the couch for hours on end is appealing to you, read on.

Jessica Kartalija reports two sports fans sat it out for more than 70 hours, all to be crowned the ultimate couch potato.

They spent hour upon hour on a recliner with a purpose.  For more than two days, Jessica Mosley and Alex Pyzik did what they do best: be a couch potato.

"To be in this contest, it's practice, practice, practice.  You've got to watch TV and lay on the couch.  It's hard work," Pyzik said.

Contestants had to write an essay describing how sporty and spudly they are.

"I plan road trips around sporting events so I can make appropriate stops--like for a game--on the way home," Mosley said.

Two other contestants dropped out early on.

"We got a five minute break every hour, then a 15 minute break every eight hours in which we were allowed to use the restroom.  We only got a bathroom break every eight hours," Pyzik said.

Jessica and Alex decided to end the competition together and both took home $5,000 in prizes.

So was it worth it?

"It was!  I made a new friend, some new friends, so that's exciting," Mosley said.

Jessica and Alex will take to the recliners again next year, Jan. 1, 2010, to see if they can again be couch potato champions.

There were four original contestants. The first one dropped out after 14 hours.
