Thousands Of Packs Of Contraband Cigarettes Seized

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) ―

Maryland authorities have confiscated nearly 4,500 packs of contraband cigarettes from a vehicle traveling on U.S. 13 North in Salisbury. Two men were arrested.

Wicomico County Sheriff's officers stopped a Toyota Sienna on Tuesday for a traffic violation. The sheriff saw the cigarettes and contacted the comptroller's office. Agents seized 4,490 packs of illegal cigarettes valued at more than $22,000.

Authorities arrested 53-year-old Zhen Ping Lin of Harrington, Del., and 41-year-old Jinjkat You of Chicago. They face charges of transporting contraband cigarettes and possession of contraband cigarettes.

Lin and You are being held at the Wicomico Detention Center on $3,000 bond.
