Both Constellation and the French-owned EdF have agreed to terms set by the Public Service Commission, but the process has rekindled a debate over how well the O'Malley administration delivered on its promise to consumers.
The sale of Constellation Energy's nuclear facilities takes another step forward. Both Constellation and the French-owned EDF have agreed to terms set by the Public Service Commission, but the process has rekindled a debate over how well the O'Malley administration delivered on its promise to consumers.
Political reporter Pat Warren has more.
Governor Martin O'Malley commended the Public Service Commission's order Friday requiring Constellation Energy to pay a $100 credit for BGE customers.
When asked how it compares to the commission under Governor Ehrlich, he said, "Competence and professionalism."
Governor O'Malley was Baltimore's mayor when consumers got rate hike shock, and he laid the shock and blame square on Governor Ehrlich.
"I do. I directly blame him. No goals, no leadership, an awful manager," he said.
Former Governor Robert Ehrlich said Monday Governor O'Malley has failed to deliver on his 2006 campaign promise of substantial rate relief.
"Dogs bark, cows moo, O'Malley whines," Ehrlich said. "It's the $100 man as far as I can see. I think people are tired. They know better now. It was transparent in 2006; it's more transparent now."
Constellation Energy and EdF have not yet finalized their deal. A spokesman says they will have no further comment until that happens.
