O'Malley Now Backs Constellation-EdF Deal

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) ― Gov. Martin O'Malley is now supporting a joint venture between Constellation Energy Group and France's EdF.

But O'Malley's backing for the $4.5 billion deal to sell half of Constellation's nuclear business to EdF depends on Baltimore Gas & Electric customers getting one-time credits that could be worth more than $200 per household and other conditions. His demands mirror those made during talks with Constellation.

Final briefs from all interested parties are due Monday and papers the administration plans to file obtained by the Baltimore Sun call on state energy regulators to attach conditions to give credit markets, BGE customers and the public confidence in the deal.

The governor's backing comes after he failed to win concessions from Baltimore-based Constellation, which owns BGE.
