'The Color Purple' Comes To Baltimore

"The Color Purple" opens in Baltimore Tuesday.

It was a hit musical and had a successful run of more than two years on Broadway. Now, the curtain for "The Color Purple" goes up at the Hippodrome Theatre on Thursday.
Ron Matz reports Baltimoreans are buzzing with excitement in anticipation of "The Color Purple."
"The Color Purple" played 910 performances on Broadway. Now, the curtain goes up at the Hippodrome.
"The Color Purple" closed Feb. 24 on Broadway after a run of more than two years. Now, it's touring all over the country.
Magic 95.9's Tim Watts saw it on Broadway. He'll do a live broadcast from the Hippodrome.
"The energy, the emotion, the Broadway version of the show just blew me out of the theater. It's fabulous," said Watts.
Montego Glover starred as Celie and Nettie. She says Baltimore should get ready for an emotional night.
"The music is original, it's gorgeous. The choreography is stunning, and it is full of joy and you will laugh and you will cry and you will laugh again and cry again," said Glover.
Baltimore is rolling out the red carpet for "The Color Purple." Mayor Sheila Dixon is planning a warm Charm City welcome.
"The Color Purple" is based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize winning novel. It received 11 Tony nominations.
