Coach Billick's Firing Continues To Be Debated
BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―
When Ravens Coach Brian Billick was fired, it set into motion an avalanche of opinions and talk.
Mike Schuh has heard from those on both sides.
From the sports bar to the sports legend and the current Raven, there's a common thread.
"Billick had to go. He'd lost control of the team," said Ravens fan Eric Paltel.
"It's the time for him to move on," said broadcaster and retired Colt Tom Matte.
"It's a tough day for all of us," said Raven Todd Heap.
The man with the alumni sticker told
Eyewitness News this is a hard interview to do, as he's friends with Brian.
"Was it time? Yeah, I think there's a time for every coach," Matte said.
The NFL is a "What have you done for me lately?" kind of place, and lately he'd not done so much.
"You saw it halfway through the team," Paltel said.
"I think this year, it had to happen, to say, `Hey, it's time to make a change,'" Matte said. "I think we, as a city, should be very happy that we had him here when we had him here."
The Ravens said they are beginning their search for a replacement and this year's defensive coordinator Rex Ryan is being considered.
