Woman Dies After Being Pulled From Jones Falls

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― A woman pulled from the Jones Falls has died.

Kai Jackson reports it happened around 2 p.m. Wednesday on Falls Road next to the Jones Falls.

Officials say Janet Lochner, 46, was unconscious and taken to Union Memorial Hospital.  Lochner was later pronounced dead.

"Unfortunately she was unconscious, non-responsive.  They immediately started life resuscitation efforts," said Kevin Cartwright with the Baltimore City Fire Department.

Authorities say three people were swimming when the incident occurred.  The woman had apparently jumped into the water off a 15-foot cliff.

"People do go swimming here and it is dangerous.  I was surprised to see it was an older person.  Mostly, it is the kids," said nearby resident Terri Howard.

The other two swimmers were not injured.  Firefighters say that's lucky, considering how dangerous the Jones Falls can be.

This is the first drowning in the Jones Falls this year.
