Md. Law Governing Child Seats In Cars To Change

BALTIMORE (AP) ―

Parents of young children are being advised that Maryland's laws governing child restraints in cars are about to change.

Effective June 30, 2008, all children under age eight will have to ride in a booster seat or other appropriate child safety seat. The law does not apply to children who are at least 4'9" or those who weigh more than 65 pounds.

Children between the ages of 8 and 16 that aren't in a car seat must wear a seat belt.

Frederick police say in a statement that the back seat is the safest location for children under 13-years-old.
