Police Seek Owner Of Chickens Found In Glen Burnie
GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ) ―
Residents of suburban Glen Burnie were surprised to find some newly arrived, early rising neighbors walking down the street last week.
As
Mike Schuh reports, it wasn't long before the police had them all cooped up.
A Glen Burnie street looked like a barnyard. There were 18 chickens in the street and in front yards.
"I came out and there was one in my yard," said Dawn Tond.
Police came to Lorimar Street. They used nets to corral them all, but they didn't stay here long.
"These were great chickens. By the time I got them out of the truck, we had a couple of eggs on the bottom of the crates," said Wendy Cazzone.
Cazzone runs Cheryl's Rescue Ranch.
Four are still caged. Their new owner just wants to get her other dozen chickens acclimated to the newcomers.
"They'll be happy. We just have to get through the pecking order thing that happens with chickens," said Maria Price. "So whoever was here first rules the coop."
As for whose chickens these were in the first place, those on Lorimar suspect it was some new neighbors, but police say that's just neighbors squawking about things they know nothing about.
If the owner were to come forward now, he or she would face charges for letting an animal run free. Since the chickens have been adopted after the five-day waiting period, they would not get their animals back.
Such chickens are easy to order on the Internet. They cost about $1.50 apiece.
