Baltimore police say they found no weapon after an officer shot and wounded a woman who they had been told was armed.
It happened just after the Thursday morning rush hour in Cherry Hill, and officials say they had to shoot.
Derek Valcourt reports detectives swarmed the area near a bus stop and the light rail station in the 1700-block of Cherry Hill Rd.
That's where a patrol officer got the call 9:30 a.m. Thursday reporting an armed woman dealing drugs in that area.
Police say when the officer arrived, he found a woman matching the description of the person he was looking for.
That's when the confrontation and the shooting took place.
"He approached her, she had her hands behind her back. She was carrying several objects. He asked her to show her hands and put down the things she was carrying, and she refused to comply. He ultimately drew his weapon and fired one shot," said Sterling Clifford, Baltimore City Police spokesperson.
The bullet struck the woman in the stomach. Police say she was alert and talking to paramedics when they arrived to take her to an undisclosed hospital.
Police confiscated a lot of evidence at the scene including the bag they say the woman was carrying and they found drugs among her possessions.
Police say the shooting is under internal investigation.
