The need for a proposed Charles County highway is being questionned by Smarter Growth Aliance.
A smart growth group is questioning the need for a proposed Charles County highway.
The Smarter Growth Alliance for Charles County issued a report Wednesday that finds the $60 million Cross-County Connector will direct development away from the revitalization of Waldorf.
The group says the proposed highway, along with sprawling development, threaten one of the last natural gems of the Chesapeake Bay -- the Mattawoman Creek watershed.
The group also says money proposed for the highway would be better spent on light rail for the Waldorf area.
The east-west highway would run south of Waldorf. The road has been proposed to deal with continuing growth in the county.
