8 Day Chanukah Celebration Begins

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ―

The eight day celebration of the Jewish holiday Chanukah begins Tuesday night.

This happy celebration commemorates the Jewish people's revolt against the Greeks more than 2,000 years ago. There was only enough oil in the holy temple's lamp to light for one day, but it lasted for eight.

To help celebrate Chanukah, the Senator Theatre is showing a rare collector's print of "Fiddler on the Roof."

Senator owner Tom Kiefaber tells Richard Sher, "The timing was perfect this year, with Chanukah coming early, to show Fiddler for eight days and nights. This is the beauty of being an independent theatre owner."

"It's wonderful that the Senator is devoting eights days to help us celebrate Chanukah," said Rabbi Mitchell Wohlberg, Beth Tfiloh Congregation.
