A Carroll County family is forced out of its home after a truck smashes through the front wall of a living room.
It happened shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday on Cedarhurst Road near Route 140 in Finksburg.
Alex DeMetrick reports the accident also involved at least three other vehicles.
Police say a red pick-up truck had a wild ride down Cedarhurst Road and into the living room of a house. It finally stopped under a stairway.
"I was in the back, all the way back and around," said Jeremy Reinholt. "It woke me straight up out of my sleep."
It all started not far away on Route 140 as the pick-up sped through four lanes of traffic, causing three other vehicles to crash. Why the truck went careening down the road is under investigation.
"He hit a van and I couldn't avoid the Ford Explorer in front of me, so I hit the back of that," said eyewitness Dan Anderson.
The man, woman and child who have rented the house for four years were not hurt, but will have to find somewhere else to live. The house absorbed the impact of the crash. The walls shifted, and authorities have deemed the home unsafe. The renters did not know the driver of the truck.
That driver was taken to Shock Trauma. His condition is not known.
Only luck kept anyone else from getting hurt. The child had asked to go out to play minutes before the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
