A robbery suspect is in the hospital Wednesday night after fleeing from police and ending up in a crash.
Weijia Jiang reports on the getaway and crash that shut down Route 32 in Crofton.
Police are not releasing the name of the suspect or his condition, but he and another suspect are expected to face robbery and theft charges.
A case of robbery gone wrong, for the robbers.
Police say around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday morning, two suspects approached a man outside Wachovia Bank at the Crofton Centre.
"[He] was in the parking lot actually at the time, when [he] was approached by the suspect who subsequently assaulted [him] and took a bag of money," Justin Mulcahy of Anne Arundel County Police said. "The suspect then fled the area and got into a waiting vehicle."
Police say the suspects drove the vehicle at high speeds through Anne Arundel County and attempted to dodge law enforcement.
The car crashed into a tree after cruising on the shoulder of Route 32 Westbound right next to Fort Meade and then swerving around police vehicles.
Police shut down Route 32, causing an intense traffic jam for several hours.
Police say it's surprising and fortunate the emergency only involved the suspects' car.
The driver was taken by Medevac to Shock Trauma.
The passenger refused treatment, but police still took the suspect to a nearby hospital.
Charges are pending, but police expect to charge the suspects with robbery and theft.
Police recovered and returned the bag of money and say the victim was not injured.
